Does Part-Time Travel Count as Real Travel? Insights from Travel Blogging
A few weeks ago, I read an article claiming that most travel blogs are penned by writers at home or in 9-to-5 jobs, not actively traveling. This prompted me to share my perspective: this isn't the norm among popular travel blogs.
Readers echoed this in comments on our recent post, "Do You Have to Quit Your Job to Travel the World?" They appreciate bloggers who aren't full-time nomads, as many inspire drastic life changes like quitting jobs or taking extended breaks.
Not all top blogs feature constant globetrotters. We follow sites like Camels & Chocolate, Budget Travel Adventures, The Jungle Princess, and No Vacation Required, run by bloggers with home bases who balance travel and life.
That said, many renowned travel blogs are by long-term travelers without fixed homes—logical for full-time explorers.
This sparked a debate with the author: Are part-time travelers truly traveling? He says no; I say yes—they travel meaningfully, just less frequently.
I connect more with bloggers who maintain a home base, blending travel with everyday life. Their advice on maximizing vacation time aligns with real-world lifestyles.
What's your take? Do shorter trips from a home base qualify as real travel?
Would you unfollow a blogger who's not a full-time nomad?
