Does Part-Time Travel Count as Real Travel? Insights from Travel Blogging

A few weeks ago, I read an article claiming that most travel blogs are penned by writers at home or in 9-to-5 jobs, not actively traveling. This prompted me to share my perspective: this isn't the norm among popular travel blogs.

Readers echoed this in comments on our recent post, "Do You Have to Quit Your Job to Travel the World?" They appreciate bloggers who aren't full-time nomads, as many inspire drastic life changes like quitting jobs or taking extended breaks.

This sparked a debate with the author: Are part-time travelers truly traveling? He says no; I say yes—they travel meaningfully, just less frequently.

Would you unfollow a blogger who's not a full-time nomad?

Yellowstone National Park, WyomingArguably the most impressive of all U.S. National Parks, Yellowstone sits squarely over an active supervolcano. Created by a massive volcanic eruption some 640,000 years ago, the Yellowstone caldera now covers an area measuring a whopping 30×45 miles. The heat beneath this area is responsible for the park’s many interesting hydrothermal features—geysers, including Old Faithful, fumaroles, hot springs, and bubbling mud pots—that are all huge tourist dr
