Lana’i Adventures: Thrilling Experiences Beyond Luxury Resorts
While Lana’i is renowned for its luxury resorts like the Four Seasons Manele Bay, it offers much more—exhilarating adventures that captivate visitors.
Adventure.
Discover five of our top adventure activities on Lana’i:
UTV Excursion & Clay Shooting
Our first thrill was a UTV excursion paired with clay shooting through Lana’i Grand Adventures. With stunning views of Maui and Moloka’i, we started from the Stables at Koele Lodge, navigating rugged terrain. After 15 minutes, we were expertly cornering turns.
At Lana’i Pine Sporting Clays, guide Frank assessed our experience. As a beginner, I used a low-recoil shotgun, and his expert coaching helped us hit moving targets on our first tries.
Tip: Wear disposable clothes—they’ll get dirty. Apply sunscreen regardless of weather!
Surfing
Lana’i Surf Safari, led by local pro surfer Nick Palumbo, delivers a unique guided experience at a secluded east-side beach with no crowds.

Experienced surfers can rent from their extensive board selection.
Snuba & Scuba Diving
Lana’i’s pristine underwater reefs left us in awe. Snuba with Trilogy made breathing underwater comfortable for the first time, as we swam amid touchable schools of fish.

Our knowledgeable guide supported novices. With top dive sites, Skin Diver Magazine ranks Lana’i among the world’s top 10. Certified divers, dive here.
4x4 Jeep Exploration
Lana’i’s vast open lands invite 4x4 adventures beyond its single town and three hotels.

Highlights include secluded Polihua and Lopa beaches, Shipwreck Beach’s wrecks and wildlife, Mars-like Garden of the Gods, Munro Trail hikes, and historic Kaunolu & Keomoku Villages. We spent hours watching turtles and crabs at Shipwreck Beach.
Rent from Dollar Rent A Car in Lana’i City. Roads are rough—expect bumps, but the freedom is unmatched.

Tip: Inquire about road conditions to avoid getting stuck—AAA service is limited.

Snorkel & Sail Tour
Trilogy’s tour from Manele Harbor echoed my favorite Hanauma Bay memory. En route to Shark Fin Cove, we enjoyed whale tales, dolphin sightings, folklore about Sweetheart Rock, and Lana’i history.
Spot high cliffs and Kahekili’s Leap, then snorkel vibrant reefs. Lunch grilled aboard was a highlight—I was last back on board.
