Spanning ten coastal towns, we've crafted this expert itinerary for wine and craft beer lovers, drawing from our firsthand travels.
California Central Coast Road Trip Itinerary
Nipomo
Horses and golf carts roam freely in Nipomo, the southernmost stop, meaning “foot of the hills.” Renowned for its stunning sand dunes, lush golf courses, and flower-filled farms.
Laetitia Vineyard & Winery crafts distinctive wines on a breathtaking ocean-view estate—don't miss their Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Beer aficionados: Visit Santa Maria Brewing Company, a beloved local secret for over 20 years.
Arroyo Grande Valley
North of Nipomo, this European-charmed agricultural town boasts year-round mild temps in the 70s. Family-owned Talley Vineyards excels in Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, perfectly matched to the valley's unique climate and soils.
Edna Valley
Edna Valley evokes Tuscany with its expansive vineyards. Tiny Autry Cellars sources grapes from Edna Valley and Paso Robles for exclusive wines available at select tasting rooms and restaurants—a must for unique finds.
Oceano
Head coastward to historic Oceano. Sample local microbrews at ManRock Brewing Company or explore over 500 regional wines at Tastes of the Valleys.
Avila Beach
This petite beach town, with under 1,000 residents and steep, house-lined streets reminiscent of mini-San Francisco, hosts one of California's last nude beaches. Dedicate hours to the Avila Wine Trail's nine sunny coastal wineries and cellars.

Los Osos
Gateway to Montana de Oro State Park, Los Osos is a nature lover's paradise. Beer fans: Baywood Ale House offers diverse craft taps. Wine seekers: Stax Wine Bar & Bistro delivers curated selections.
Cayucos
Cayucos Cellars, a family-owned winery on a working ranch, pours daily (except Tuesdays, 11:30am-5:30pm) from its downtown tasting room. Pro tip: Pair with irresistible treats from Brown Butter Cookie Company—contenders for our best-ever cookies.

Cambria
We love Cambria's quaint vibe and beaches, dotted with tasting rooms. Highlights: Historic Stolo Family Winery (farmhouse from the 1800s) and a quick stop at Cambria Beer Company.
San Simeon
Home to Hearst Castle, San Simeon also features Hearst Ranch Winery with Chardonnay, Tempranillo, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Late Harvest Zinfandel, and Red Cuvée. Nearby, observe majestic elephant seals.

Ragged Point
The northernmost gem, Ragged Point dazzles with 400-foot cliff views and our favorite pre-Big Sur brunch. The Ragged Point Inn wine bar showcases Paso Robles and Edna Valley stars like Eberle, Calcareous, Baileyana, and J. Lohr.
