Wanderlust is a strong desire to travel, but in Virginia, we call it WanderLove. Even as travel evolves, an epic road trip reveals Virginia's timeless beauty.

Charlottesville captivates with its thriving wine scene, indie boutiques, luxurious stays, delectable dining, and outdoor adventures. Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains' foothills, it's the perfect girls' weekend escape. Unique vineyard B&Bs and experiences make it ideal for safe, socially distanced travel. Just a two-hour drive from Washington, DC.

Vineyard Lodging

At Afton, we checked into The Farmhouse at Veritas Bed and Breakfast, built in 1836. This gem offers eight luxurious rooms with panoramic mountain and vineyard views. Each stay includes sparkling wine and a farm-fresh breakfast. The Derby Room stands out: a modern two-level suite overlooking Petit Verdot and Viognier vines, with a spiral staircase to a king bed, private entrance, and wraparound porch with rocking chairs. Every room exudes charm, elegance, and European flair—the pinnacle of vineyard B&Bs.

For larger groups, book the Barn Cottage. Veritas also provides socially distanced indoor dining.

For a serene resort vibe, try Glass House Winery Bed and Breakfast in Free Union, 10 miles northwest. Perched on a hill with vineyard, lake, and Blue Ridge views.

The Monticello Wine Trail dazzles with stunning options. For efficiency, cluster visits. Unique Wine Experiences

Elevate your trip with adventure: Book a private horseback ride through vineyards with Indian Summer Guide Service. Post-brunch at Veritas, our horses Gracie and Amber were gentle, our guide patient. Ascending the mountain unveiled epic winery and farm views—a highlight we'd repeat.

Sundays at King Family Vineyards, catch the Roseland Polo Match. Dress in sundresses and heels for polo action amid mountain backdrops—perfect for Instagram.

Dining in Charlottesville

Southern staples like fried chicken, BBQ, and black-eyed peas shine here. For girls' weekend vibes, we sought trendy spots with views.

Friday: Common House, a chic members-only social club with event spaces, lounge, library, games, and roof terrace. Rainy night, but décor, service, and meals impressed.

Saturday: Quirk Hotel's rooftop bar in downtown. This new boutique stuns with art, curvaceous ceilings, galleries, and eateries. Rustic Italian menu—pizzas, veggies, pastas, charcuterie—pairs with local beers and Virginia wines, all with panoramic city and mountain views.

This unforgettable Charlottesville adventure with my girls has us planning a return!
