I visited in early January and enjoyed balmy days, light snow just 30 minutes away, and uncrowded hikes—perfect for solo exploration.
How to Get to Tucson
Tucson International Airport (TUS) makes arrival seamless, served by eight airlines with nonstop flights to 19 cities and connections to over 340 airports.
Phoenix, just two hours north, is another option for flyers renting a car. Amtrak's Sunset Limited and a 24/7 Greyhound station provide rail and bus alternatives.

Just 16 miles west, this park showcases America's iconic saguaro cacti amid hiking and biking trails. Favorites include Loma Verde Loop (3.8 miles), Wild Dog Trail (1.8 miles), King Canyon/Gold Mine Loop (2.4 miles), and Sendero Esperanza to Wasson Peak (3.4-8 miles).

Note the east side's ancient saguaro forests and pine elevations versus the west's dense cacti and grasslands. Both offer trails, scenic drives, and picnic spots.

Mission San Xavier del Bac
