Caribbean Islands Rebounding After Hurricanes: Essential Travel Updates

In the wake of devastating hurricanes, our thoughts are with everyone whose lives and livelihoods have been profoundly impacted. The extended Travelzoo community includes countless partners, friends, and relatives across the Caribbean.

Our Miami Travelzoo team evacuated during Irma but was fortunate to return to a city swiftly restored to normalcy. Tragically, millions elsewhere continue facing catastrophic flooding, prolonged power outages, shortages of food, water, and medical supplies, plus extensive home damage.

Updates:

St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, Antigua, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, the Bahamas, Barbados, Jamaica, Sint Eustatius and Martinique, Aruba, Guadeloupe, the Cayman Islands, Bonaire, Anguilla, Belize, Curacao, Guyana, Grenada: All fully open for business.

Florida Keys: The Keys officially reopened to tourists on Oct. 1, nearly three weeks ahead of schedule. Nearly all water and power services have been restored. Key West International Airport and Florida Keys Marathon International Airport have resumed commercial flights.

St. Thomas: Cyril E. King Airport reopened Sept. 28 for commercial flights.

St. Croix: Henry Rohlsen Airport reopened Oct. 5; many hotels will welcome guests starting Nov. 1.

Turks & Caicos: Providenciales International Airport is handling scheduled flights. Numerous hotels plan to reopen from October through December.

St. Barts: Gustav III Airport has reopened, though many hotels will stay closed through fall and winter.

Dominica, Sint Maarten/St. Martin, the British Virgin Islands, Barbuda, St. John: Infrastructure severely damaged; airports reopened Oct. 9 with limited service.

Puerto Rico: Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport is operational but with restricted flights, overcrowding, delays, and widespread infrastructure issues.

Cruises: Royal Caribbean has suspended stops at Sint Maarten, St. Thomas, and Key West until full recovery. Lines like Norwegian Cruise Line are shifting eastern Caribbean itineraries to the western Caribbean through November. See Travel Market Report for port-specific details.
