Tivoli Theatre Announces Inaugural 2016-2017 Broadway Season Lineup
The Tivoli Theatre is excited to unveil its inaugural Broadway at the Tivoli Theatre season, enhancing its cultural and musical programming as part of the ongoing revitalization efforts.
The full 2016-2017 Broadway at the Tivoli Theatre season includes:
DIRTY DANCING – The Classic Story on Stage January 17 & 18, 2017
CHICAGO February 15-17, 2017
RENT – 20th Anniversary Tour March 8 & 9, 2017
RIVERDANCE – 20th Anniversary World Tour April 18-20, 2017
ANNIE May 2 & 3, 2017
The season opens with the record-breaking DIRTY DANCING – THE CLASSIC STORY ON STAGE, bursting with heart-pounding music, passionate romance, and sensational dancing. Enjoy hits like “Hungry Eyes,” “Hey Baby,” “Do You Love Me?” and the iconic “(I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life”—guaranteed to give you the time of your life!
Perfect for Valentine’s week, CHICAGO follows as one of America’s longest-running musicals. Celebrating its 20th year on Broadway, it won six 1997 Tony Awards® including Best Musical Revival and a Grammy for Best Musical Cast Recording. Set in the razzle-dazzle 1920s, it tells the tale of Roxie Hart, a housewife and dancer who murders her lover and turns her crime into tabloid sensationalism with help from slick lawyers and media hype.
In 1996, Jonathan Larson’s groundbreaking rock musical RENT transformed American theater. This Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award®-winning show returns in a vibrant 20th anniversary tour. A reimagining of Puccini’s La Bohème, it follows seven artists chasing dreams amid adversity, delivering a timeless message of love, friendship, and hope.
Returning by popular demand, RIVERDANCE – The 20th Anniversary World Tour blends Irish traditions with innovative dance, music, and song. Composed by Bill Whelan, produced by Moya Doherty, and directed by John McColgan, this phenomenon captivates audiences worldwide after sold-out runs in Europe and Asia.
The season closes with the beloved ANNIE, directed by original lyricist Martin Charnin and choreographed by Liza Gennaro. Featuring Tony Award®-winning book and score by Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse, and Martin Charnin, it includes classics like “It’s the Hard Knock Life,” “Easy Street,” “I Don’t Need Anything But You,” and “Tomorrow.” New York Post raves: “Overflowing! Big, warm-hearted and funny!”
