Chattanooga Bike and Brew Tour: Your Self-Guided Guide to Top Breweries

Chattanooga offers a wealth of exciting activities, from sunny trail hikes and visits to the renowned aquarium, to exploring unique art collections and strolling vibrant downtown streets. Recently, sampling local craft beer has become a must-do for visitors.

With the rise of craft beer over the past decade, downtown Chattanooga now boasts numerous breweries and tap houses, each offering distinctive flavors. The close proximity of these spots, combined with Chattanooga's outstanding bike share program, makes for an ideal self-guided bike and brew tour.

We've selected four of Chattanooga's most distinctive breweries, all easily accessible by bike within five miles. This route starts at the farthest point and heads toward the city center, but it works in reverse too.

1. The Tap House

Situated in historic St. Elmo, just minutes from downtown Chattanooga, The Tap House (3800 St Elmo Ave, No. 114) features 30 beers on tap, including premium craft brews, local favorites, and gluten-free ciders. Relax on the patio, soaking in St. Elmo's quaint charm and views of Lookout Mountain before pedaling onward.

Next leg: Head north on Tennessee Avenue toward Broad Street. Turn slightly right onto W. Main Street, then left onto Market Street; your next stop is on the right.

2. Terminal Brewhouse

Terminal Brewhouse (1464 Market Street) stands out for its classic beers, inventive food menu, and quirky triangular building—a former hotel for train passengers jutting oddly into Market Street. Enjoy five staple beers like Rock Out With Your Bock Out and Dead Sexy Scottish, plus a rotating seasonal brew. It's an ideal lunch spot.

Next leg: Continue north on Market Street past the Chattanooga Choo Choo. Turn left onto 4th Street, then right onto Broad Street; Big River Grille and Brewing Works is on the right.

3. Big River Grille and Brewing Works

Housed in a historic trolley barn in downtown's heart, Big River (222 Broad Street) is a Chattanooga institution. Savor a dozen craft beers alongside an extensive menu—perfect for ending your tour with dinner. Outdoor seating offers excellent people-watching as you unwind.
