What Makes Four Peaks Brewing's Beers Exceptional: Insights from Head Brewer Andrew Harden
Summertime in Arizona calls for lake outings with friends and a cooler stocked with Four Peaks beer. Since 1996, Four Peaks Brewing Company has crafted some of Arizona's most beloved local brews. The foundation of their success lies in the expert team overseeing the brewing process.
Head Brewer Andrew Harden brings 13 years of experience to Four Peaks, including the last eight as lead brewer. His day begins before dawn at the Wilson Street production facility, where he directs his team, outlines daily tasks, and ensures everything is primed for brewing premium Four Peaks beers.
Premium ingredients are key, especially top-quality hops. Four Peaks sources 80-90% of its hops from Yakima Valley in Washington, home to over 140 varieties. Many of their beers feature these hops, supplemented by supplies from Hopsteiner or German farms.
During peak season (August through May), the Wilson Street facility produces about 1,900 barrels weekly. Meeting this demand required expanding the brewing and packaging teams. Summer's heat brings a welcome slowdown, giving the crew time to recharge.
Brewing at Four Peaks balances hard work with creativity. Brewers innovate through the Single Tank Series, crafting unique one-tank recipes for public tasting. The Munich-style Helles Lager, a standout from this series, proved so popular it joined the core lineup. Other ideas originate from owners Andy Ingram and Jim Scussel, who inspire new styles that the team refines.
Four Peaks excels at beer-food pairings, thanks to close collaboration between chefs and brewers. Staff expertly match beers to dishes after sampling sessions to perfect combinations. For pairing tips, watch our video featuring Four Peaks' recommendations.
