NYC Broadway Week Returns: 2-for-1 Tickets to Top Shows – Dates, Deals and Must-Sees
The average Broadway ticket price last season reached $123.07, up $13.86 from the prior year and $19.19 from 2014. While the exceptional talent and productions justify the cost, Broadway Week offers significant savings through 2-for-1 tickets.
Organized by NYC & Company and The Broadway League, NYC Broadway Week spans three weeks in winter and two in late summer. Enjoy discounted access to classics like The Phantom of the Opera and My Fair Lady, family favorites such as Aladdin and Anastasia, adaptations including Mean Girls, Pretty Woman, and The Band’s Visit, plus originals like Come From Away and Dear Evan Hansen.
This winter's event runs January 21 to February 10, with bookings opening January 9. Over 20 shows remain available despite quick sell-outs for some. Pro tips: Opt for the $20 seat upgrade for premium locations at greater value, and note early August for summer bookings.
Winter attendance means shorter post-show lines for autographs and photos. Bundle up for the experience.
Here are five standout shows and their highlights:
Come From Away
Following 9/11, 38 planes carrying 6,579 passengers landed in Gander, Newfoundland (population 9,651). This 100-minute, single-act musical by David Hein and Irene Sankoff captures the stories amid Celtic music influences. A Tony nominee with top Show-Score ratings alongside Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, it earned praise from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Waitress
Sara Bareilles returns to her Tony-nominated role through February 3, boosting sales significantly. The story follows waitress Jenna channeling emotions into pies—with real pies baking in Brooks Atkinson Theater. Catch scents of cinnamon during songs like "It Only Takes a Taste." Nearby, Little Pie Company satisfies cravings. Joey McIntyre joins February 5.
Pretty Woman: The Musical
Adam Pascal (Rent originator) stars opposite Samantha Barks (Les Misérables). Bryan Adams co-wrote the score and has made surprise appearances, including a medley on January 3. Pascal debuted on this Nederlander Theatre stage 22 years ago in Rent.
Mean Girls
This adaptation of the iconic film was voted Broadway.com's top show of 2018, with Erika Henningsen as star of the year. Lindsay Lohan recently visited the cast.
Waverly Gallery
Running through January 27, this Kenneth Lonergan play (Oscar winner for Manchester by the Sea) features Elaine May, Michael Cera, Lucas Hedges, and Joan Allen. Ranked third in The New Yorker’s Best Theatre of 2018, it blends humor with themes of memory loss—a poignant "I laughed, I cried" experience. May debuted here 58 years ago.
