Top 5 Must-Do Experiences in Seattle: A Local's Insider Guide by Chelsea Lankford

Top 5 Must-Do Experiences in Seattle: A Local s Insider Guide by Chelsea Lankford

As a Seattle local who recently returned after five years in Minneapolis, I've rediscovered the city's endless appeal while hosting visiting friends. Far from feeling overdone, these iconic spots never fail to impress—even more so with fresh eyes.

From my recent staycation with Sun Country Airlines, here are my top 5 favorite Seattle experiences:

1. Westlake Center to Seattle Center Monorail

I didn't discover the monorail until adulthood, after mastering public transit. This affordable ride glides a couple stories above downtown, offering stunning views of skyscrapers and the ocean coastline. In just eight minutes, it whisks you from shopping haven Westlake Center to the iconic Space Needle.

2. Bainbridge Island Ferry

Washington State Ferries are commuter staples, but they're also quintessential Seattle adventures. Spot the white-and-green fleet dotting Elliott Bay. For about $8 round-trip (walk-on), enjoy nearly an hour of scenic views and wildlife from indoor/outdoor decks, with onboard coffee and amenities—a perfect urban escape.

3. Beecher’s Award-Winning Mac and Cheese

Beecher’s mac and cheese is unmatched, blending two types of their acclaimed cheeses with chipotle and garlic for bold flavor. The bustling Pike Place Market spot moves fast—arrive hungry, leave mesmerized by the aroma of perfectly melted perfection!

4. Gas Works Park

For breathtaking Seattle skyline views, head to Gas Works Park on Lake Union's north shore. Transformed from a 1975 coal-and-oil plant into a beloved public space, it's ideal for watching seaplanes, duck boats, and sunsets behind the Space Needle—a locals' and visitors' favorite.

5. Chinook’s Fish and Chips

After global travels, Chinook’s remains my top fish and chips. From Anthony’s trusted restaurant family, this marina gem serves the freshest Northwest seafood at peak quality. Start with popcorn shrimp and a local brew before the star dish—guaranteed to wow guests.

  • Best Things to Do in Pai, Thailand: Ultimate Travel Guide

I have mixed emotions about Pai in Thailand. At times, I felt a deep love with it, while at other times, I hated it. I think the fact that the town feels more modern than local, made me hate it. In short, I did not like Pai the way I expected. But that doesn’t mean that visiting this town is not worth it. There is plenty to see and do around. You can hike to the waterfalls, wander through farms and rice terraces, visit the nearby villages and bike to caves. And speaking of top things to
