Discover Macal River Camp: Belize's Affordable Jungle Eco-Resort
Belize is rapidly emerging as the Caribbean's fastest-growing destination, drawing travelers with its lush rainforests, pristine beaches, expansive nature reserves, and ancient Mayan ruins. Now, Macal River Camp offers an eco-friendly jungle retreat that's accessible to all budgets.

Macal River Camp is an eco-lodge nestled in a 400-acre private nature reserve in Belize's Cayo District, the epicenter of eco-adventure tourism. It's the more affordable sister property to the upscale Lodge at Chaa Creek, set amid lush tropical rainforest along the Macal River.
Situated just half a mile from the Lodge, it features 10 rustic casitas (Spanish for 'small houses')—elevated, screened wooden cabins on stilts. Each includes comfortable double or single beds with mosquito netting and a shaded veranda. Shared facilities offer spotless bathrooms, hot showers, a thatched-roof dining area, kitchen, communal campfire, and canoe landing.

"The Lodge at Chaa Creek’s little sister property delivers a simpler pace and immersive natural setting, letting guests savor jungle sounds, vibrant gardens with endless flowers and scents, and star-filled night skies," says Robert Harrison, marketing administrator at Chaa Creek.
Perfectly attuned to its jungle habitat, the camp excels for birdwatching, hiking, and canoeing. Access involves a scenic half-mile jungle hike from the parking area. Rates start at US$75 (€66/£57) per night, including canoeing, guided bird walks, rainforest medicine trail, natural history center, and butterfly farm—no extras needed.

Operating discreetly for years, Macal River Camp is now officially marketed by Chaa Creek. For details or bookings, see here.
