Dimitris Papaioannou Celebrates at Onassis Cultural Centre

Choreographer of the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and stage designer of the opening ceremony of the first European Games that were held in Baku, Azerbaijan, in 2015 -to name just a few of the snapshots of Dimitris Papaioannou’s international career- is returning in late spring with a new show at the Onassis Cultural Centre (24/5-11/6). His new work has been included in the artistic program of the famous Avignon International Festival for this summer. It is also the first time that a performance of Dimitris Papaioannou is completed through a co-production, as it is supported by several major cultural institutions from Switzerland and Sweden to Taiwan to South Korea. As far as the subject is concerned, the only information that has been revealed so far is that the performance deals with the question of whether human life can be seen as an exploratory journey, a treasure hunt, or an inner “archeological excavation” that promises to bring deeper meanings to the surface.
