Expert Africa's Data-Driven Website Reveals Prime Wildlife Spotting Locations Across Africa

Whether you're aiming to spot the Big Five on your African safari or target specific species, Expert Africa's new website simplifies your planning. Drawing from over 700 traveler surveys collected over two years by this renowned tour operator, the site features nearly 30,000 observations of 26 animal species—a groundbreaking 'citizen science' initiative.
"A great safari can be an amazing, life-changing holiday," says Chris McIntyre, Managing Director of Expert Africa. "Choosing the right one is critical, so providing the best insights for planning was central to our vision for this website."

On the Wildlife tab, explore 26 species—from lions, giraffes, and hippos to elusive pangolins and aardvarks. Data shows just a 2% chance of spotting a pangolin, but over 90% odds for chimpanzees, mountain gorillas, and elephants. Even researchers are using this data to map animal distributions in eastern and southern Africa.

"Our travelers' data has helped hyena researchers identify new ranges for three species," McIntyre notes. "We aim to contribute meaningfully to wildlife research and conservation awareness."

Traveler reviews have long guided safaris, but Expert Africa's rigorous approach transforms them into evidence-based science. "We're thrilled to make this data-driven," McIntyre told Lonely Planet. "It's a revolutionary evolution, helping future travelers learn from past ones." See the website here.
