Rebel Spirits: A Powerful New Exhibition at the Sixth Floor Museum
On the 50th anniversary of the tragic assassinations of President John F. Kennedy and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Sixth Floor Museum in Dallas proudly unveils Rebel Spirits, a temporary exhibition that explores the intertwined paths of two of America’s most iconic leaders.
Although their origins were markedly different, Kennedy and King shared a profound commitment to civil rights, poverty alleviation, and opposition to the Vietnam War. Rebel Spirits illuminates these common convictions through a curated image gallery and artifact collection.
The exhibition features nearly 60 photographs taken by renowned photojournalists of the era, including a mug‑shot of King following the 1956 Montgomery Bus Boycott indictment, a bustling crowd surrounding Kennedy during his 1968 presidential campaign, and candid video footage of Kennedy delivering an unscripted speech after King’s death.
Find Rebel Spirits on the museum’s seventh floor, the dedicated space for special and temporary exhibitions. A stop on the sixth floor—home to the museum’s core collections—is a must‑visit before heading up.
The exhibit runs through September 3 and is free with museum admission.
