Fathom s Favorite Links: Chicago Architecture, Art & Highlights (Oct 24, 2015)

What we're clicking on and talking about this week at #FathomHQ.

I just spent an excellent week geeking out on architecture, art, and very good food in Chicago. I was especially delighted to stumble upon a flurry of public programs, tours, and installations around the city for the inaugural Chicago Architecture Biennial running now through January 2016. – Becky, assistant editor

If I can escape for the weekend of November 13, I want to go to the Jamaica for NyamJam, the new food and music festival with a killer lineup of chefs and talent created by hotelier and music luminary Chris Blackwell. – Pavia, CEO

During the Great Depression, the Farm Security Administration–Office of War Information started the largest federally-funded photography project in history to document agrarian life in America in support of policies aimed at relocating poor farmers on viable land throughout the country. Their collection of 170,000 photos offers an interesting look at simple life during a diffucult time in American history. – Daniel, editorial assistant

As a tribute to The New Yorker, French artists created illustrated covers for an imaginary magazine called The Parisianer. As an added twist, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as a lead up to the big climate conference, had them dream up magazine covers 35 years into the future to depict life transformed by technology and the environment. – Jeralyn, editorial director

Russians like to build it big, in size and spectacle. Example: Ornate subway stations that could easily double as underground palaces that nobody knows about. Photographer David Burdney, one of the only people in the world with a permit to shoot the military-controlled Moscow metro, took beautiful photographs. – Daniel

Farther West, I'm dreaming of taking a letterpress or screen-printing class at the Independent Publishing Resource Center in Portland one day. – Becky

To celebrate the launch of BBC Music, a who's who of global artists (Pharrell, Lorde, Baaba Maal, Chrissie Hynde, Stevie Wonder) got together on a remake the Beach Boys classic "God Only Knows." The video is so sweeping and beautiful, I'm embedding it here. – Pavia
