What does “Love Local” mean to you?

It means when you say “shop small,” you actually go and do everything possible to shop within your local community and embrace the entire community as a whole.

At Indio Food Park, a lively food truck park and beer garden, discover Tajin-rimmed chavelas, refreshing aguas frescas, sweet Mexican street corn, and artisanal pizza by the slice. Diners enjoy a diverse array of options infused with authentic local flavor.

“I originally wanted to start a restaurant,” says founder Erick Becerril. As a commercial building inspector with over 12 years in government service, he’s adept at helping others realize their business visions. Now, it was time to pursue his own entrepreneurial dream while uplifting fellow small businesses. After studying the food and beverage industry, an Instagram post about a food park in Colombia inspired him. “I said to my fiancée, ‘Wow, that seems like a really cool idea,’” he recalls.

“We started ‘Foodie Fridays’ at the Indio Marketplace,” he explains. “The first weekend had just one vendor and about 10 visitors. Within three months, we grew to 20 vendors and kept expanding.”

After a pandemic-related closure, Indio Food Park reopened at its current spot on the corner of Miles Avenue and Smurr Street. Every Friday and Saturday, a rotating lineup of Greater Palm Springs food trucks—from taco specialists to slushy stands and pop-up creperies—serves hungry locals and visitors. An indoor counter offers authentic Mexican dishes like handcrafted ceviche and tamales, while nearby booths showcase unique merchandise from local artists and makers.

Becerril’s vision is straightforward: unite people and small businesses in one welcoming space. Nestled in Indio’s historic downtown amid stunning hand-painted murals, the park buzzes with live music, laughter, and families dining and dancing on the outdoor lawn—creating a true culinary and cultural experience.

“We’re thrilled to provide this,” he says. “Other cities have expressed interest after seeing how we support small businesses. We’re excited to expand food parks across Greater Palm Springs.”
