Curated Travel Links We Love: January 26, 2019 Edition

Every week, our travel editors and experts select the best travel finds on the internet and beyond.

Heritage trips, wherein you travel to discover your ancestral roots, are on the rise. (Thanks, 23andMe.) Maybe this is the year I make it to that village that no longer exists in southern Ukraine my great-great-grandparents came from. – Daniel, editor

If you've ever looked at the Fathom Instagram feed and wanted to jump into the photo, now you can. We've partnered with TRILL, a new service that lets you book the hotels, sites, and restaurants straight from our images. Find the links through the linktree in our bio. — Pavia, CEO

Bookmarking a new-to-me digital travel guide series called Pathport and loving their offbeat take on two of my favorite destinations — travel diaries inspired by Coco Chanel's favorite French summer destinations and the lesser-known side of Japan.– Berit, senior editor

The Cairo International Book Fair is back for the 50th year, and it sees as many as one million visitors as the largest book fair in the Middle East. Booksellers from a famous secondhand market in central Cairo are boycotting the event for becoming too inaccessible (it's getting expensive and moved to a locale in the 'burbs). They have up with their own solution: a rival book fair. – Jeralyn, editorial director

An underground restaurant is coming to the old Croix Rouge train station in Paris' 6th arrondissement as part of a city-wide plan to repurpose abandoned spaces. – Daniel

Some day I'll wear fringe and set off for The National Cowboy Poetry Gathering, which is happening this weekend in remote Elko, Nevada. It'll have tall tales, taller hats, steaks, gambling, crooning, and big-hearted storytelling, sometimes in rhyme. – Jeralyn

if you're heading to the French Alps to ski this winter, you might want to stay on the mountain (literally) at Flying Nest, a new mobile hotel concept by AccorHotels. Having made appearances at Le Mans  race and a photography festival, the container-based accommodations will be setting up camp at the Avoriaz ski resort. Low impact and totally eco, they are inexpensive (from €150 per night), innovative, and may be the most ski-in, ski-out option ever. There's no website to book yet, but this is one to keep an eye on. - Pavia
