Fathom Stands with Black Lives Matter: Advancing Diversity in Travel

Fathom Stands with Black Lives Matter: Advancing Diversity in Travel

Fathom is based in New York City. In the past few weeks, we've marched, protested, listened, read, and realized that we need to do so much more. We need to broaden our editorial coverage to ensure it is more balanced for all voices. And we need to use our voices to advocate within the travel industry when we see lapses in inclusivity, when we see limits in hospitality.

And we have also been learning. That the black-white economic divide is as wide as it was in 1968.

That there were only 27 days in 2019 when police did not kill someone and Black people were 24% of those killed, despite being only 13% of the population.

That in the United States, black soldiers were denied the same benefits as white soldiers after World War II.

That although the United States has a particularly awful history of racism, one inherent in the foundation of this country, Black Lives Matter is a global movement.

We are happy to share a few of the inspiring images shared on social media of what the protest look like around the world, starting at home and moving around the USA to Australia, Europe, and Africa.

Learn. Help. Get Involved

We have realized that just because we have opinions about race, it doesn't mean we are informed. Education and activism are the first steps toward being thoughtful and responsible global citizens.

The Urban Institute is the trusted source for unbiased, authoritative insights that inform consequential choices about the well-being of people and places in the United States.

#BlackLivesMatter was founded in 2013 in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martin’s murderer. Black Lives Matter Foundation, Inc is a global organization in the US, UK, and Canada, whose mission is to eradicate white supremacy and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes. By combating and countering acts of violence, creating space for Black imagination and innovation, and centering Black joy, we are winning immediate improvements in our lives.

Freedom Fund is a leader in the global movement to end modern slavery. We identify and invest in the most effective frontline efforts to eradicate modern slavery in the countries and sectors where it is most prevalent.

The Center for Racial Justice in Education’s mission is to train and empower educators to dismantle patterns of racism and injustice in our schools and communities. At the Center for Racial Justice in Education, we envision a world where all young people learn and thrive in racially equitable, liberating, and empowering educational spaces.
