506 Lofts: Historic High-Tech Haven in Downtown Nashville

506 Lofts: Historic High-Tech Haven in Downtown Nashville

506 Lofts
Nashville, Tennessee
High-tech cool, $

When visiting a storied town like Nashville, why not stay in a hotel with history? The downtown building that's home to 506 Lofts began its life in 1880 as a dry goods store. In the 1940s, it became Harvey's Department Store, notable not only for its wares but for its escalator (Nashville's first), indoor horse carousel, and live monkeys at the Monkey Bar food counter. Nashville, friends, has always liked a good time. Fast forward past a few decades as a men's shop and another few spent abandoned, and today the upper floors of the building have been converted into a half-dozen cool vacation lofts filled with custom furniture and original artwork. The hotel reaches for the future (those high-tech services) as it keeps a foot in the past (those artfully distressed walls). Best of all, staying here helps fulfill a strong social mission. Like its sister hotels in East Nashville, The Russell and The Gallatin Hotel (opening this summer), 506 Lofts couples hospitality with generosity, donating a percentage of proceeds to local charities — an admirable foundation not only for These Challenging Times, but for always.

At a Glance

The Vibe: Industrial and cool.

Standout Detail: The look isn't for everyone, but we love the distressed walls.

This Place Is Perfect For: Young (or youthful), low-maintenance travelers who want to be in the center of Nashville.

Feel-Good Factor: Through their Rooms for Rooms program, the hotel donates the majority of its profits to local non-profits that serve Nashville's homeless population. Through its charity partners Nashville Rescue Mission, Room in the Inn, Shower Up, and People Loving Nashville, the company has provided more than 16,000 beds and meals since 2016.

Rooms: Six lofts can accommodate two, four, or six guests and are like mini apartments, with fully equipped kitchens, washer and dryer, and at-home basics like WiFi and cable. The names of the lofts — The Monkey Bar, The Carousel, The Harvey — recall the building's history.

On Site: 506 Lofts lacks traditional hotel amenities like a gym, business center, or lobby living room. All concierge services are remote — you call, text, or email for anything you need, 24/7. (Welcome to a future of hospitality.)

Food + Drink: The hotel provides complimentary basket of snacks and coffee. And because you can stock your in-room kitchen with whatever you want, your midnight mini-bar raids will be exactly what you want them to be.
