Ultimate Guide to 4th of July Celebrations in Southwest Louisiana
While the Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4th, 1776, Independence Day celebrations gained momentum in the 1800s. A June 26, 1903, American Press article described Lake Charles' grand plans, including a mock battle and a parade featuring many local ladies. The piece noted, “This in itself is enough to show that much interest is being taken by everybody to make sure the 4th of July celebration in Lake Charles is the biggest event in this section of the country.”
Over a century later—in 2019—we continue that tradition with enthusiasm!

The Red, White, Blue & You 4th of July Celebrations begin downtown with a parade starting at Pine Street, heading south on Ryan Street toward Lock Park/7th Street. Everyone in the community is welcome to join—as long as vehicles are patriotically decorated!
Post-parade, the Arcade Pavilion at the Lake Charles Civic Center hosts a musical tribute by the Lake Charles Community Band and Louisiana Choral Foundation, featuring stirring patriotic songs to ignite American pride.
The evening culminates in spectacular fireworks over the lake, starting around 9:15 p.m. Secure prime viewing spots early for this unforgettable display.
For options across the bridge or a fresh twist, Moss Bluff presents its inaugural Red White & Boom at the Moss Bluff Recreation Complex (1180 Recreation Boulevard). From 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., enjoy food, music, and family-friendly fun.

Kickball games begin at 5:30 p.m. (registration at 5:00 p.m.), Zydecane performs 5:00–6:00 p.m., and Louisiana Yard Dogs take the stage 7:30–9:00 p.m. Fireworks light up the sky around 8:45 p.m.

Stay active with the Lake Area Runners' 4-mile race along Lakeshore Drive, followed by a post-race party with food, drinks, and fireworks prizes for top finishers.
Whatever your choice, honor our nation's founders and Southwest Louisiana's heritage that makes this region the ideal spot for patriotic festivities.
