Nestled in Campbellsville, Kentucky, Green River Lake State Park spans 1,331 acres of lush land and an 8,200‑acre reservoir. Since opening in 1969, the park has offered visitors a mix of outdoor recreation, wildlife viewing, and family‑friendly amenities.

Top Five Things to Do

  1. Hike, bike or horseback ride the 28 miles of all‑purpose trails.
  2. Cast a line on Green River Lake – home to bass, bluegill, catfish and crappie.
  3. Camp in one of 167 RV sites with water & electric hookups or 60 primitive spots (campground closes December 31, 2021 and reopens March 11, 2022).
  4. Picnic and enjoy the lake’s views and the vibrant fall foliage.
  5. Take a scenic drive to spot wildlife such as deer, turkey, eagles and hawks.

History

The Army Corps of Engineers began dam construction in 1964, and the park officially opened in 1969. It now offers 28 miles of multi‑use trails, an 18‑hole miniature golf course, a beach, picnic areas, a playground, and a marina.

Activities & Facilities

Trails & Outdoor Exercise

  • 28 miles of hiking, mountain‑biking and horseback‑riding trails.
  • Trailheads are clearly marked; some trails restrict bikes or horses.

Fishing

Whether you’re a seasoned angler or just starting out, the lake’s fishery offers white, largemouth, smallmouth and Kentucky bass, bluegill, crappie and muskie. A Kentucky fishing license is required. Purchase a license online.

Boating & Water Sports

The marina provides 200 covered slips, houseboats, fishing boats, ski boats, jet skis and pontoons. It operates from March to November. Fees apply for rentals, slips and gas. Call 270‑465‑2512 for details.

Camping

Choose from 167 RV sites (water & electric) or 60 primitive tent sites. The campground offers Wi‑Fi, a grocery store, dump station, showers, restrooms and laundry. All overnight guests can use the on‑site basketball and volleyball courts.

Miniature Golf

18‑hole course open April 1 to October 31. $5.00 per game. A fun activity for all ages.

Picnicking & Dining

Rent a picnic shelter up to a year in advance. The park also has two playgrounds, picnic tables, grills and a beach with volleyball court. Open March to November.

Wildlife & Birding

April through mid‑summer is prime time for resident and migratory songbirds. Winter brings abundant waterfowl, eagles (peak January‑February), and osprey during fall migration.

Sports & Recreation

Overnight guests may borrow basketball, volleyball and other sports equipment. The park’s sports courts are a great way to stay active during your stay.

Marina & Rentals

For a day on the water, the marina offers boat slips, rentals and a restaurant. Reservations are recommended.
