General Burnside Island State Park features an 18‑hole golf course and a 102‑site campground on a 400‑acre island. The park honors Civil War General Ambrose Burnside, who patrolled the Cumberland River around this island during the war.
Hours of Operation
Golf course: year‑round. Campground: open mid‑March to mid‑November (closed Nov 15 2020–Mar 15 2021).
Things to Do
Fishing
Lake Cumberland is renowned for its fishing. Target crappie (10‑inch limit), largemouth and smallmouth bass (15‑inch limit), and striped bass (24‑inch limit with a two‑fish daily limit). A Kentucky Fishing License is required. Purchase a license online.
Boating
A marina adjacent to the park offers slips, fishing boats, ski boats, pontoons, and houseboats. A six‑lane launch ramp provides easy access to the lake. Nearby Lake Cumberland State Dock, the world capital of houseboating, offers Southern hospitality and luxurious houseboats. Visit their website.
Camping
Enjoy cool lake breezes and scenic views at our 94‑site campground, which includes utility hookups, two central service buildings with showers and restrooms, and a dump station. Call 606‑561‑3625 for reservations.
Golf
Play the fully renovated 18‑hole course surrounded by Lake Cumberland. Pro shop, pull carts, and riding carts are available. Learn more about the course.
Picnicking
Facilities include picnic tables, grills, and a playground. Two picnic shelters (one with restrooms) can be rented up to one year in advance.
