Harmon Guest House: Embrace Harmony with Food, Wine & Nature in Sonoma s Wine Country

Harmon Guest House
Healdsburg, California
Modern, $$ ($229)

Japanese design meets Scandinavian sensibility at Harmon Guest House, the third act in a Sonoma County hotel story that includes Hotel Healdsburg and h2Hotel. Just off the historic downtown plaza in Healdsburg, the LEED Gold-certified, 39-room hotel invites the outdoors inside via large windows, sunlit stairwells, reclaimed redwood sun-shading features, and a check-in desk made from an enormous felled eucalyptus tree. Durable organic materials feature heavily, from polished concrete to vine trellises. A rooftop terrace offers views of Fitch Mountain and Sonoma Hills and a wooded footbridge leads to a creekside plot for picnics. All that nature, and yet the hotel is walking distance to many excellent foodie destinations, tasting rooms, and galleries. If you care about design, environment, and location, and you love to drink wine — you're in luck.

Double Queens and Founder’s Suites adjoin for families as intimate wings. All rooms have balconies or patios and views of the main street and town square, interior garden courtyards, or the swimming pool and creekside park. Creative collaborations with local artisans result in nice decorative touches like hand-loomed bed throws, Peace Industry rugs, recycled clay tiles, and wall art. Food + Drink: Breakfast (fruit, pastries, eggs, artisan coffee) happens at Spoonbar, the cafe-restaurant next door at sister property h2Hotel. What to Do Nearby

Northern California’s Sonoma wine country continually lures travelers hungry for top-notch foods (local, sustainable, organic, high-quality — most notably at SingleThread, one of Fathom's World's Best Foodie Escapes, right off Healdsburg's main square), wines (ditto), pristine landscapes, and small town charm. There are hundreds of excellent regional wineries (Russian River Valley, Chalk Hill, Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley) and tasting rooms nearby, including a good two dozen in town (be aware, though, that things close early). Are you the boozy shopper type? There are lots of beautiful, bougie shops, too, carrying everything from home goods to pet accessories to men's clothing. The hotel has a cute map of favorite spots in the area.
