Posada de Taos: The Best Bed & Breakfast in Taos, New Mexico – A Traveler's Honest Review
The moment we arrived in Taos, New Mexico, I fell in love at first sight. My partner Dani called it 'cute,' but I was utterly captivated. That's when she shared the legend of Taos Mountain—a sacred energy that welcomes some visitors while repelling others. Skeptical as I am about such tales, our stay at Posada de Taos convinced us both of the town's magnetic charm.
From the instant we checked into this stunning bed and breakfast just off the central plaza, we were enchanted by its historic allure.
Posada de Taos is impeccably managed by owners Brad and Michael. Brad, also president of the Taos County Chamber of Commerce, showered us with invaluable recommendations during check-in, making us eager to extend our trip. Michael, equally hospitable, bonded with us over shared Midwestern roots and a love for Chicago. Little did we know his breakfasts would seal the deal.
This historic inn, built by a founding member of the Taos Society of Artists, sits in the Historic District—walking distance to everywhere. A thriving vegetable garden out front supplies Michael's kitchen ingredients. The cozy living room, adorned with Southwestern art, and the manicured backyard offered perfect spots to unwind with sunset wine.
The Rooms
Winter guests enjoy daily-prepared Kiva fireplaces from November to April. Our late-September visit was chilly enough to appreciate them. For the price of a standard Courtyard by Marriott stay, we savored unique luxury. The Lino Room featured a charming picket-fence queen bed, chic en-suite bathroom, and private patio.
Our second night in El Solecito—a split-level suite with a king bed—was pure bliss. Hosts had moved our bags; after llama trekking, the whirlpool tub and mountain-view patio were heavenly. We lamented our early departure to Colorado's Rocky Mountains.
Dreaming of a full day lounging in oversized chairs, soaking in the Mexican-tiled tub, and stepping onto the stone patio overlooking the garden and mountains. We'd sip afternoon tea, enjoy guest snacks and cookies, and browse the extensive bookshelves.
Come for the Breakfast Alone
Michael's gourmet breakfasts are legendary. Brad hosts communal seatings at 7:30 or 8:30 a.m., fostering lively conversations with guests from diverse backgrounds. As nomadic media professionals in our mid-30s, we fit right in, forming connections that enhanced our stay.
After fresh fruit, yogurt, juices, coffee, tea, and pastries, Michael served masterpieces like polenta cake with over-medium egg and superior chilaquiles—better than any Southwest restaurant.
We departed for Colorado vowing to return—not just for Taos adventures, but to luxuriate at this inn blending homey comfort and vacation magic under Brad and Michael's stewardship.
