14 Reasons We Fell in Love with Uruguay: Insider Highlights from Our Trip
Our two weeks in Uruguay barely scratched the surface. This compact South American gem quickly won us over with its endless beaches, vibrant capital Montevideo, and charming colonial towns. Drawing from our firsthand experiences, here's our curated list of 14 things we adore about Uruguay—one for each day of our stay—complete with key facts and insights.

As the 14th nation worldwide to legalize same-sex marriage, Uruguay embraces inclusivity—we witnessed open affection and visited Montevideo's Plaza for Equality.

11. Punta del Este Rambla
On Uruguay's east coast, this cape's west-facing beaches deliver breathtaking sunsets along scenic promenades.

12. Laid-Back Vibe
From hippie beaches and universal healthcare to low crime and decriminalized marijuana, Uruguay embodies South America's most relaxed lifestyle.
13. Historic Lighthouses
Over 15 coastal lighthouses, many from the late 1800s, offer panoramic views. Brave the stairs for an unbeatable blend of history and beach scenery.
