Keawakapu Beach: Maui's Secluded Haven for Snorkeling, Sunsets, and Serenity

Keawakapu Beach: Maui s Secluded Haven for Snorkeling, Sunsets, and Serenity

Keawakapu Beach dazzles from dawn to dusk with its pristine, sparkling sands. Stretching from southern Kihei to Wailea’s Mokapu Beach, this tucked-away gem sits back from the main road, less visible—and less crowded—than Kihei’s busier northern beaches. It’s an ideal spot to unwind and savor Maui’s legendary sunsets.

With its powdery soft sand, Keawakapu is a top choice for sunrise yoga and refreshing morning strolls. The calm ocean waters are perfect for evening swims. Snorkelers should head to the rocky outcrops at the northern and southern ends early in the day for the best visibility and marine life. During winter months (December–April), humpback whales often approach remarkably close to shore for unforgettable sightings.

Three convenient beach access points feature outdoor showers. For the southern end, drive south on South Kihei Road until it dead-ends at a beach parking lot. Midway, park at the corner of Kilohana Drive and South Kihei Road, then cross to the beach walkway. At the northern end, ample parking is available in a large lot north of the Days Inn.
