Keʻe Beach: Kauai's North Shore Gem with Safe Swimming and Na Pali Cliff Views

Long celebrated as one of Kauai's North Shore's most breathtaking beaches, Keʻe Beach sits beside the Kalalau Trailhead at the end of Kuhio Highway. Recent parking restrictions have revitalized the area, ensuring a more serene experience. Enjoy safe swimming in the reef-protected lagoon at its western end, tucked against the dramatic Na Pali cliffs. Always heed lifeguard warnings—currents can be unexpectedly strong, pulling swimmers through the reef.
Stroll eastward along the tree-fringed sands, where erosion has exposed intricate root systems resembling spiders' legs, for stunning vistas of the Na Pali cliffs.
Access is now limited to a scenic quarter-mile boardwalk from the road-end parking lot, requiring advance permits. The North Shore Shuttle stops here and waits for passengers until 5pm daily, making it convenient for visitors.
Ancient lava-rock platforms on the western slopes, legendary birthplaces of hula, remain closed to the public. Today, Keʻe Beach offers a refreshing swim for hikers completing the Kalalau Trail.
