Georgetown Heritage Welcomes New Canal Boat for Programs & Rentals
Georgetown Heritage and The National Park Service (NPS) are excited to be bringing a canal boat back to Georgetown after nearly a decade!
The new canal boat will be available for programs and private rentals starting this spring and running through the fall of 2022. It has been in a dry dock within the canal near the 31st Street Bridge since its delivery in the summer of 2021. Modeled on designs for historic packet boats that were used on the canal during its early years of service, the new design includes modem amenities and materials such as an onboard restroom, battery-powered electric motors, and a fiberglass hull to ensure visitor comfort and safety. The boat will be a vital resource to educate and engage residents and visitors to the District of Columbia. Each tour will include historic information on the canal, its heritage, and how and why it works!
