Owned by the Washington County Historical Society, this 1850 restored historical home is now a museum. Period furniture, artifacts, exhibits of county history and life are on display. Area residents' personal historical items can be seen. See a rare photo of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and his personal signature on a penned letter to a Sandersville girl. 

General Sherman headquartered here in 1864 while on his infamous March to the Sea. He napped here, dined with the family and held staff meetings. The lounge where he napped remains. Civil War memorabilia, County Pottery, the Kaolin Industry and artifacts from the historical Sandersville Old City Cemetery can be viewed. Art by local artist of the Civil War in Washington County is displayed throughout the museum.

Displayed is an enlarged exhibit of Civil War items. Some items are unique and usually not seen in a museum. Personal articles, letters written home by soldiers and other significant Civil War items can be seen.
