The Mission of Averitt Center for the Arts is to provide quality arts opportunities for our community and serve as a centerpiece for a vibrant historic downtown. It is housed in the 1891 Bank of Statesboro building; the bank closed in 1932 and the City of Statesboro eventually bought it in 1997 to house the David H. Averitt Center for the Arts. The former Georgia Theater building is now the Emma Kelly Theater. Today, the arts center stages theater, musical and dance performances and other events.
