Award-winning Seabrook Village is a unique, African-American living history museum. Following the Civil War, freed blacks recognized that their future depended on education. Eight turn-of-the-century buildings offer visitors an authentic feel for African-American life and culture from 1865 to 1930. Almost all artifacts, land and structures have been donated by collectors and members of the local community. Visit the one-room Seabrook School where "reading, writing and 'rithmetic were taught to the tune of a hick'ry stick." Or, try your hand at grinding corn into meal and grits or washing clothes on a scrub board. The Seabrook School is a one-room schoolhouse built in 1875 by members of the community. The best way to see Seabrook is with a group tour. Three-hour tours are fully interactive with costumed guides. Full meal service, picnics and entertainment are available. Also available are daily, afternoon, 1-hour guided walking tours and "anytime" self-guided tours.
