Seattle-Inspired Halloween Costumes: Creative Ideas from Visit Seattle

When you work at Visit Seattle, being the city’s biggest fan kinda comes with the territory. Our staff tends to find their own unique ways of expressing this as our obsession with everything Seattle seeps out of the office and into our personal lives. For me, that outlet has become Halloween.

My children are the lucky souls who get to stand in as the canvas for my love letters to my city. Below, I’ve shared the original Seattle inspiration followed by my artistic interpretation. If these photos inspire your own Seattle-themed costumes (for you or your unsuspecting loved ones), I’ll consider my work complete.

Chihuly glass sculpture in 2018

It’s not a stretch to be inspired by the colorful, light reflecting glass artwork at Chihuly Garden and Glass. But while glass artist Dale Chihuly creates incredible, intricate glass masterpieces, my son has him beat when it comes to the most adorable, pinch-able cheeks.

Pike Place Market Fishmongers in 2019

Fish and fishmonger. These two make a good pair. Also, it is not lost on me that this positions my older son as trying to sell his younger brother. Once we arrived at the office, fellow Visit Seattle staffers Rylee DeWitt and Katy Willis joined my boys to complete the Pike Place Market fishmongers theme.

If you’re looking for further inspiration on Seattle or Pacific Northwest-themed costumes for kids, Red Tricycle has shared some great idea starters. As for how my two kiddos will be representing this year? Nice try. This costume mama would never dream of spilling her secrets ahead of time. But it will be good!
