COVID-19 Updates & Safety Guidelines for Salem, Massachusetts Visitors
Some businesses have reopened with new policies, hours, and guidelines. We strongly recommend planning your visit to Salem by confirming hours and availability with individual businesses, buying tickets, and making reservations in advance wherever possible.
Mask Requirements
The City of Salem indoor mask requirement expires at midnight on November 13. While the City will not require masks be worn indoors after November 13, individual businesses have the right to require masks be worn on their premises. Massachusetts requires masks to be worn while on public and private transportation (including trains, buses, ferries, taxis, and ride shares, and while in stations) and while in healthcare settings. Free Rapid Testing at Riley Plaza, Mondays-Saturdays, 8:30 am – 4:30pm
Curative, the company that operated the City of Salem’s free rapid COVID testing site in October, will continue to serve the Salem community with a free walk-up COVID testing site located in Riley Plaza starting on Monday, November 15th. The Curative testing trailer will be open six days a week, Mondays-Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Testing at this site is self-collected PCR testing, with results returned within 24-48 hours. The Curative team of local employees look forward to serving the Salem community with easily accessible testing to enhance the testing already available in Salem.
Stop the Spread
Free PCR testing is offered six days per week at two different locations. Drive-through at Salem High School (77 Willson Street) Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays 4pm-8pm; Saturdays 10am-3pm or walk-up at St. Peter’s Church (24 St. Peter Street) Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 9am-3pm, and Friday’s 9am-2pm. The walk-up site at St. Peter’s Church will also be open Saturdays in October from 9am-2pm. Allow 1-3 days for results. No cost, no proof of insurance or residency/citizenship required. Stop the Spread is a state testing program; you can also visit Stop the Spread sites in communities around Salem. Visit www.mass.gov/stopthespread to find locations.
Capacity Restrictions
There are currently no restrictions on capacity in Massachusetts, unless set by individual businesses. Confirm capacity limits and reservation requirements with individual businesses ahead of your visit.
Travel Restrictions
There are currently no travel restrictions for visitors entering Massachusetts, however the state recommends that people follow CDC guidelines for travel.
