Taormina, Sicily: The Ultimate Guide to Its Stunning Views, Beaches, and Vibrant Nightlife
After savoring what many hail as "the best pizza in Italy" at Pizzeria Da Michele (Via Cesare Sersale 3, Naples) and resting at the welcoming Hostel of the Sun, I felt an irresistible urge to return to Taormina, Sicily.
Having explored Europe from Spain and Italy to Prague, Amsterdam, and Paris—including an initial four-day stay in Taormina early in my trip—something magical drew me back. Was it the warm locals, exquisite cuisine, pristine beaches, or lasting friendships? Whatever it was, after two days in Naples, the proximity to Sicily made it impossible to resist.
Traveling from Naples is straightforward: take a train that ferries across the Strait of Messina to Sicily. Alternatively, fly into Palermo (PMO) or Catania (CTA) airports, both offering direct buses to Taormina.
Perched on Sicily's east coast, Taormina boasts breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea and Mount Etna. Near the bustling Corso Umberto, steps lead to serene beaches with crystal-clear waters. Visit in spring or fall for ideal weather; July and August bring peak crowds and heat.
Where to Stay in Taormina, Sicily
Budget travelers have solid hostel options, varying by distance from the center. For upscale stays within walking distance of downtown, consider Villa Carlotta or Hotel Villa Schuler. I personally stayed at Hotel Villa Chiara—helpful staff, under $100 USD per night, and just steps from Corso Umberto.

Top Things to Do in Taormina, Sicily
For nightlife, head to Morgana Bar, recommended by a Roman friend. Tucked in a narrow alley off Corso Umberto, this stylish spot draws locals. Its kind, hospitable staff made it a highlight. It doesn't fill up until midnight, unlike touristy clubs better for dancing but lacking local vibe.
Strolling Corso Umberto is a must—perfect for people-watching, indulgent gelato, afternoon wine, or authentic pizza at family-run eateries.

Relax at Isola Bella beach, sheltered in a bay for reliable sunbathing even on cooler days.
Taormina holds a special place in my heart as a potential long-term home. With affordable flights, it's a top Sicily destination. Ciao!
