7 Proven Tips for a Successful Caribbean Cruise with Kids
Planning a Caribbean cruise with a large family, including young children, can be rewarding yet challenging. Our group of 14, celebrating my father's 60th birthday, included seven kids. Though we don't have children of our own, we discovered effective strategies to keep everyone entertained while maintaining our sanity during this seven-day adventure.
Essential Tips for a Family Caribbean Cruise
Dress Kids in Bright, Identifiable Clothing
Custom bright blue t-shirts labeled "Rod’s Crew" with names and birthdays on the back made spotting the children easy in crowds. Opt for the brightest colors possible. In Labadee, Haiti, my seven-year-old niece wandered briefly on a busy beach, but her vibrant pink swimsuit helped us reunite quickly.
Choose a Cabin with a Balcony View
A balcony cabin overlooking the ocean or lively ship areas provides endless entertainment for kids beyond TV. We frequently relaxed there, even enjoying room service breakfasts with stunning vistas.

Utilize Onboard Kids' Programs
Cruise lines offer engaging activities like the Adventure Center for ages 3-10, which our younger kids preferred over adult time. Older teens may need encouragement for the Teen Center, but it provides tailored fun.
Indulge Responsibly in Cruise Amenities
Moderation is key, but a relaxing drink can help parents unwind amid family chaos, fostering patience during minor mishaps.
Select Family-Friendly Shore Excursions
Prioritize kid-appropriate ports. In Jamaica, a bird sanctuary delighted all ages with interactive feeding and photos. In Cozumel, a beach offered snorkeling, Snuba, and Sea Trek for older kids, while sand toys and showers kept toddlers happy despite deep waters nearby.
