Ultimate Guide to Driving Canada's Sea to Sky Highway: Top Stops, Tips, Eats & Stays
Discover British Columbia's iconic Sea to Sky Highway from Vancouver to Whistler, featuring breathtaking ocean views, cascading waterfalls, towering mountains, and thrilling suspension bridges. In July, I spent five days exploring this stunning route solo, and this guide shares my road trip tips, must-see spots, dining recommendations, accommodations, and more.
As a solo traveler who prefers shorter drives, I appreciated the highway's mere 2-hour span without stops. Yet, its endless photo ops, hikes, and scenic pullouts make it perfect for leisurely road trips.

Top Recommended Stops Along the Sea to Sky Highway
Brandywine Falls
Near Whistler, this 230-foot waterfall offers an easy 10-20 minute walk from parking to the viewing platform. Watch for signs, as the lot is right off the highway.

Lynn Canyon Park & Suspension Bridge
Starting from Vancouver Airport rental car pickup, my first stop was North Vancouver's photogenic Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge. It's just steps from the park entrance—expect crowds in summer for that Instagram shot.

Shannon Falls
BC's third-highest waterfall in Squamish. A viewpoint requires minimal hiking, but for a closer look at the base, I scrambled up the creek bed in flip-flops—adventurous and worth it!

Sea to Sky Gondola in Squamish
Opened in 2014, this ride ascends to the 100-meter Sky Pilot Suspension Bridge, linking trails and viewpoints. Access eight hikes from the summit—allow ample time.

Peak 2 Peak Gondola in Whistler
On a cloudy day, low clouds added magic to the 360-degree views. Summer brings downhill bikers; watch for tricks on the trails.
Scandinave Spa Whistler
Post-hike bliss in hot soaking pools. The full Nordic circuit—heat, cold plunge, relaxation—detoxifies, reduces inflammation, and boosts circulation.

Whistler Seaplane Tour
Harbour Air's 40-minute Ultimate Glacier tour soars over Garibaldi Lake's turquoise waters and Black Tusk for aerial perspectives.

Where to Stay Along the Sea to Sky Highway
Lonsdale Quay Hotel
In North Vancouver's vibrant market area by the harbor, it's 10-15 minutes from Lynn Canyon and ideal for foodie explorations.
Nita Lake Lodge
Whistler's perfect base with lakeside trails, canoes on Nita Lake (or nearby River of Golden Dreams), and a shuttle to the village. Ideal for multi-day adventures.

Where to Eat Along the Sea to Sky Highway
Pier 7 Restaurant & Bar in North Vancouver
Prime harbor views pair with standout dishes like fresh oysters, truffle frites, and short rib tagliatelle.

StonesEdge Kitchen in Whistler Village
Wholesome comfort fusion shines in the buffalo chicken sandwich and Thai coconut curry chicken meatball bowl.
La Cantina Urban Taco Bar in Whistler Village
Elevated tacos and massive burritos with melt-in-your-mouth slow-cooked meats—a Whistler must.
