Following resort staff advice, we trekked a dirt path to a secluded beach opposite the harbor. There, hundreds of starfish dotted the shore, midnight-colored rocks, and shallow waters. Wear water shoes—sea urchins abound!

Mauritius's coral reefs encircle the island, forming calm, glassy lagoons safe from large fish like sharks. Vibrant marine life makes them ideal for snorkeling and glass-bottom boat tours. Perfect conditions also support kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), and beginner sailing lessons.

This geological marvel was a serendipitous addition to our itinerary, thanks to our guide en route from Mahebourg to The St. Regis. These stable sand dunes display seven hues—red, brown, violet, green, blue, purple, and yellow—from decomposed volcanic rock. Mix the sands, and they mysteriously separate again.
5. Rhumerie de Chamarel
Nearby, the acclaimed Rhumerie de Chamarel offers 30-minute tours (Monday-Saturday, ~350 Rupees). The on-site L’Alchimiste restaurant serves exceptional lunches with estate-fresh local ingredients.
