Virginia LOVEworks Family Adventures: The FloYos' Quest for Lasting Memories

Virginia LOVEworks Family Adventures: The FloYos Quest for Lasting Memories

Discover how one dedicated family is crafting lifelong memories by exploring Virginia's iconic LOVEworks signs, sharing their journeys on Instagram.

Affectionately known as the “FloYos,” the Flowers-Yost family—Mandi and Matthew, daughters Lili and Savannah, and their dog Zoe Jane—makes it a mission to visit all of Virginia’s 100+ giant LOVE signs, called LOVEworks.

Their adventure kicked off during a drive home from vacation when they spotted their first LOVE sign at a rest area. Since then, their Instagram page features over 300 posts documenting these visits. As Mandi shares, “It’s the best way to track our journey and spread the love with others.”

Mandi is the main photographer, with 8-year-old Savannah occasionally stepping in. College senior Lili prefers capturing family moments from behind the lens. The FloYos plan trips around LOVEworks locations, discovering nearby attractions via social media.

“I search TripAdvisor by town and check Instagram hashtags for local insights,” Mandi explains. “We always find great local eateries and quirky roadside attractions—you’d be amazed at how many there are!”

Their itineraries often include museums and forts for Virginia history, plus wineries and breweries on adult getaways. Mandi raves about Norfolk’s NEON arts district, boasting “absolutely amazing” street art and murals.

Having checked off 75 locations, favorites are tough to pick, but Mandi loves the Airlie LOVEwork in Warrenton—their first discovery. It uniquely allows visitors to add personal lovelocks. “We attached our first marriage lovelock there,” she recalls. “The picturesque sign and serene grounds create a tranquil, feel-good vibe.”

Virginia Beach ranks second for its abundance of art, multiple LOVE signs, and vibrant murals. “We’re excited to visit the newest one in the ViBe Creative District by a local artist!” Mandi adds.

The FloYos celebrate Virginia’s inclusive appeal, from wineries and breweries to art districts, music festivals, historic towns, family fun, and outdoor adventures—perfect for quality family time.

“Virginia lives up to its ‘Virginia is for Lovers’ slogan,” Mandi says. “Music, wine, love, beer, art—there’s something for everyone!”

Mandi and Matt hope more LOVEworks pop up statewide, fueling their travels. Sharing inspires others, connecting them with fellow Instagram adventurers.

Beyond fun and education, these trips prioritize memories. Having missed travel in her own childhood, Mandi ensures her daughters experience nature’s beauty, history, and art.

“We teach them life’s about more than ‘stuff’—collect memories, not things,” she says. “Quality time tops our list, and we hope they pass it on.”

“Make memories, laugh often, explore new places—life’s too short. We can’t wait for more LOVE!” Virginia LOVEworks Family Adventures: The FloYos Quest for Lasting Memories
