Pennsylvania Department of Health Aligns Mask Order with Latest CDC Guidance for Fully Vaccinated Residents
Harrisburg, PA – Acting Secretary of Health Alison Beam announced that Pennsylvania's mask order now reflects the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance issued on May 12, 2021.
On March 16, 2021, the Acting Secretary amended the commonwealth's mask order to incorporate CDC recommendations for fully vaccinated individuals. This ensures the latest CDC guidelines automatically take effect statewide. Mask requirements remain in place for unvaccinated individuals until 70% of Pennsylvanians aged 18 and older are fully vaccinated.
“The CDC's updated guidance applies only to those who are fully vaccinated,” Acting Secretary Beam stated. “This serves as another strong incentive to get vaccinated, now conveniently available everywhere. Once 70% of Pennsylvania adults are fully vaccinated, we can lift the masking order completely.”
The CDC advises that fully vaccinated individuals may resume pre-pandemic activities without wearing masks or maintaining physical distance, except where required by federal, state, or local laws, rules, regulations, or business and workplace policies.
