Expert vintners understand the profound value of time—from nurturing vines for the finest vintages and harvesting grapes at peak ripeness to aging wines to perfection. Mount Nittany Winery, with over 30 years of expertise since opening in 1990, has mastered these arts. They even turned the challenges of COVID-19 into opportunities for innovation and enhancement.

Their first upgrade transformed wine tastings. After researching wineries nationwide, they shifted from individual pours to reserved-time wine flights—a change that has proven immensely popular, according to owner Linda. “It elevates the entire experience,” she shares. “Visually stunning flights, relaxed socially distanced seating in our serene mountainside setting, and packaged charcuterie snacks make it unforgettable and highly praised by guests.”

The second enhancement revitalized their venue. Previously, tastings and events occurred in the charming chalet-style tasting room. During the shutdown, Linda and her team renovated the adjacent underutilized event space into The Vintner’s Loft—a spacious, airy mountain retreat ideal for groups and special occasions.

Adjoining the Loft, a well-stocked gift shop offers curated wine gift boxes, bags, tags, local artisanal foods, and Penn State fan favorites.

Now, The Vintner’s Loft serves as the primary tasting room, with options to reserve spots on the outdoor deck by the pond or a pavilion featuring a fire pit and games. The original tasting room, refreshed with new lighting and seating, is now The Treehouse Winebar—perfect for private wine-pairing events. “We provide wine service alongside local beers and spirits,” Linda adds.

2021 brought a bustling schedule of tastings and events, but Linda reflects positively: “That COVID year allowed quality time with loved ones and key upgrades that make visits to Mount Nittany Winery even more exceptional.”
