Horry County Museum Highlights Local Scuppernong and Muscadine Grapes with Free Events
The Horry County Museum provides a refreshing escape from South Carolina's peak summer heat and humidity. This month, museum director Walter Hill, a renowned storyteller and educator, delivers a lecture on Scuppernong and Muscadine grapes. These native varieties, first discovered along North Carolina's Scuppernong River, are cherished in Southern cuisine for wines, pies, jams, and jellies.
Walter Hill's engaging presentation on Scuppernongs and Muscadines takes place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2020, in the McCown Auditorium at 805 Main Street, Conway, S.C. The event is free and open to the public.

The following Saturday, the L.W. Paul Living History Farm—an extension of the Horry County Museum—hosts a "Cooking with Grapes" demonstration from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the farmhouse kitchen. Staff will prepare grape jam and grape hull pie using fresh local Muscadine grapes.
Open Tuesday through Saturday, the farm recreates Horry County family farm life from 1900 to 1955. Located at the corner of Hwy 701 North and Harris Short Cut Road in Conway, S.C., it offers free admission to the public.

These venues make ideal stops on a Conway day trip, complementing the Riverwalk or downtown dining. Explore full programs at HorryCountyMuseum.org.
