Must‑Visit Spots in Nafplion: A Traveler’s Guide

Ideally situated even for a one-day trip from Athens, the atmospheric city of Nafplion is perfect for pleasant walks that combine unique shopping with all-day fun and good food, while new hotel arrivals are not missing either.

At Feelwood (27, Staikopoulou Str.), you will find original lightweight bags made of wood.

At the famous Kombologadiko (5, Vasileos Konstantinou Street) you will be impressed by the inexhaustible variety of worry beads, and you’ll also look for the Karnayo (16, Staikopoulou Street) for retro and handmade toys, and Oberon (8, Kokkinou Street) for cute clothes by young Greek designers.

If you have a sweet tooth, pay a visit to the traditional ice cream shop of Koustenis (16, Vasileos Konstantinou Street), the Gelateria Antica on Farmakopoulou Street, and the new Retro Latteria on the same street.

Coffee lovers, on the other hand, will head to the Circulo Cooperativa (corner of 6, Vasileos Konstantinou Street & Kokkinou Street, 27520 47090), which faithfully follows the trend of specialty coffees.

If you want a light meal, the Es Aei Enoteca & Tapas Bar (8, Staikopoulou Street is an attractive option, as it serves tapas, juices, cocktails and many wines from the Greek vineyards, and so is the restaurant at the multipurpose venue Fougaro (98, Asklipiou Street), at the marvelously renovated premises of an old factory.

The city’s new hot spot is found in the area of Pronoia, where the Menta (7-19, 25th Martiou Street), a small plates bar, and the Journal (corner of 25th Martiou & 6, Nikitara Street), a modern-style café, stand out.

Three new hotels have arrived to provide for your accommodation. The 3Sixty Suites, above the namesake café-bar restaurant, combines high-end equipment with Italian luxury. The Athena Hotel is housed in a two-storey building of the ’60s with appropriate décor, vibrant colors, and abstract forms. The 999 is housed in a restored mansion overlooking Palamidi.
