Dallas Oktoberfest 2023: Authentic German Dining & Craft Brews for a Virtual Celebration
With the arrival of fall comes the quintessential Bavarian celebration—Oktoberfest. While COVID‑19 restrictions have shut down public festivals, you can still embrace the spirit of Gemütlichkeit (cheerfulness) by savoring authentic German fare and craft beers from Dallas’s finest breweries. Prost! (Cheers!)
Kuby’s Sausage House has been a Dallas staple since 1961. This award‑winning delicatessen offers a wide array of wursts—including Bratwurst, Weisswurst, Knackwurst, and Wienerwurst—as well as schnitzels. No German meal is complete without potato salad and sauerkraut. The European Market carries meats, sausages, gourmet cheeses, and European salads. While the dining room is currently closed, Kuby’s remains open for take‑out Monday–Thursday, 6 a.m.–5 p.m.; Friday–Saturday, 6 a.m.–9 p.m.; Sunday, 9 a.m.–2 p.m.
District 9 Draught Haus proudly positions itself as East Dallas’s Beer & Brat Town Hall. Their taproom specializes in German lagers and local brews, while a curated menu of wurst sandwiches and Bavarian specialties keeps patrons coming back. District 9 is available for dine‑in, take‑out, curbside, and delivery. Hours: Tuesday–Thursday, 3–10 p.m.; Friday–Saturday, noon–11 p.m.; Sunday, noon–8 p.m.
Henk’s European Deli & Black Forest Bakery serves breakfast, carry‑out lunches, and an impressive assortment of European‑style cakes and breads. With kassler (smoked pork loin) and a variety of wursts, their sandwiches and plates evoke a taste of the old country. Henk’s hours: Tuesday–Friday, 8 a.m.–2 p.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m.; Sunday, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
While bratwurst, wiener schnitzel, and sauerkraut are classics, what’s Oktoberfest without the beer?
On Rotation Small Batch Brewery & Taproom offers up to 40 specialty brews for curbside pickup in growlers. From the Black is Beautiful (chocolate cake imperial oatmeal stout) to the Red Beard (DDH double IPA), their lineup is both unique and eclectic, featuring experimental flavors that you won’t find elsewhere. Hours: Tuesday–Thursday, 3–9 p.m.; Friday–Saturday, noon–10 p.m.; Sunday, noon–7 p.m.
Community Beer champions the “Beer for the Greater Good” mission. While the taproom remains closed, their seasonal Hoptoberfest IPAs Eins and Zwei, as well as core, seasonal, and limited‑release offerings, can be ordered online and picked up at the brewery in the Design District.
Peticola’s Brewing Company delivers 16 outstanding varieties available for curbside pickup. Their menu includes the Velvet Hammer, Royal Scandal, and The Usual—perfect for a measured indulgence.
Deep Ellum Brewing Company (DEBC) is fully operational. As the largest independent brewery in North Texas, DEBC offers nine year‑round favorites plus seasonal releases. Brewery tours remain suspended, but the taproom and kitchen welcome guests from Wednesday–Sunday, noon–8 p.m.
