Hurricane Sandy Recovery: Donate Time, Money & Energy to Support NY & NJ Communities

If you like NY and NJ as much as we do, here's a list of ways you can help affected communities get back on their feet. 

Donate Manpower

Lower East Side Recovers – Offer assistance (time, money, donated items) to the downtown Manhattan community.
Red Hook Recovers – Ditto for the Brooklyn neighborhood.
OccupySandy – Coordinate neighborhood recovery and see a list of places where you can donate much-needed supplies.
NYC Department of Parks & Recreation – Aid in clean up and recovery in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, The Bronx.
CAAV – Work with Asian communities primarily in Chinatown.
Rockaway Relief — A group of local New Yorkers are gathering volunteers to help clean up the Rockaways.

Donate Cash

Red Cross, Salvation Army, American Humane Society – Give monetary relief to via text.
Community FoodBank of New Jersey – Donate directly to help reach hungry New Jersians.
Fund for Trees – Help replace destroyed trees at The New York Botanical Garden.
The Mayor's Fund – Give toward hurricane relief as well as civic innovations and school gardens initiatives.
Waves For Water (W4W) – Gather disaster relief for families of surf-based coastal communities (like the Rockaways). 
Masabia – Help get fresh, low-sodium meals into soup kitchens.  
Brooklyn Recovery – Text 'Brooklyn' to 25383 to donate $10 to the fund, a joint effort between the Brooklyn Community Foundation, the Office of the Brooklyn Borough President, and the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce.

Be patient. And don't forget. Recovery lasts a lot longer than the media attention. There will be volunteer needs for many weeks or months.
