Fathom Readers' Must-Pack Favorites for July 4 Weekend Getaways

Fathom Readers Must-Pack Favorites for July 4 Weekend Getaways

We asked on social media, and you answered. Here's what's making it into your suitcase this July 4 weekend.

Packing tips are as personal as underwear. What fits one person doesn't always work for another. And while we have several tried and tested rules that successfully get us from point A to point B, we're always down to try something new.

Which is why we polled you, our friends on Twitter and Facebook for your best packing tips. From the perfect Panama hat to the best chili sauce, you told know that it isn't always about how you pack, but what you pack. Here's what's making it into the Fathom world's suitcases this 4th of July weekend.

1. Mustela SPF 50+ Sunscreen

@Miss_birrell considers SPF 50 a must-have item any beach vacation. We love this sunscreen because it works for the whole family, even the tiniest ones ($22).

2. Basic Tees

@Adrianaanderson is a self-described rolling packer. Especially when it comes to small items like basic tees ($25), which she doubles up to save on space.

3. Knock Knock Notes

Be like @GretchenFinn and skip travel packing apps in favor of an old-fashioned paper checklist in a colorful pocket sized notepad ($8).

4. Club Monaco Hat & Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment

In addition to the standard stack of magazines and cold water, @JaimeMaser packs Fresh Sugar Lip Treatament ($22.50) and a cute Club Monaco hat ($130) to ward off the sun.

5. Sriracha

Gummy worms, eye drops, a secret stuffed animal. Everyone has one or two items they can't bear to be without. For @AveryRaygun, it's a big bottle of chili sauce ($5) to spice up the blandest of airplane meals.

6. Everlane Backpack

For a weekend getaway, @BonVoyaing loves Everlane's twill snap backpack ($65). The handy interior pocket makes for easy laptop transportation.

7. Flight 001 SpacePack

Our favorite packing pro @HithaPalepu travels with the SpacePack system ($51), a simple way to stay organized, regardless how big or small your bag is.

8. Herban Essentials Essential Oil Towelettes

For longer-haul flights, @geology_rocks carries moist towlettes ($16) for an easy refresh for hands and face.
