Meet Kelsey Keith: Dwell Editor's Favorite Destinations from Copenhagen to New Mexico

Meet Kelsey Keith: Dwell Editor s Favorite Destinations from Copenhagen to New Mexico

Hometown: Knoxville, Tennessee.

Occupation: Special projects editor, Dwell.

Favorite destinations: Copenhagen, Normandy, New Mexico mountains.

Dying to visit: Turkey and Iceland.

Bizarre travel rituals: Inventing dialogue between the foreign-speaking travelers next to me. Drinking as much water as my bladder can stand.

In-flight relaxation regime: I used to have an uncanny power to fall asleep on planes. No more. Now I bring earplugs and an eye mask.

Always in carry-on: Nook. I have an annoying habit of finishing in one go the books I bring on planes. If I load a few in advance, I'll always have something (usually of the detective novel variety) to read.

Concierge or DIY? DIY. I'm a wanderer.

See it all or take it easy? Take it easy until 11 a.m. Then see it all!

Drive or be driven? Drive! Preferably across a bridge.

Travel hero: Anthony Bourdain. He goes balls out.

Weirdest thing seen on travels: A woman in Berlin leaping across an entire public bus to slam a window shut — when it was 95 degrees out. Apparently, some Europeans think moving air will make them sick.

Best hotel amenity: Crazy thick lotion, the kind that grandmothers like. It's not especially fancy, but my skin gets super dry when traveling.

Everywhere I go, I check out the stationery shops.

I dream about my meal at Lark in Seattle. I love eating in the Pacific Northwest because good wine and food are priced as an everyday expenditure, not just a special occasion.

When I arrive in a new place, I learn the lay of the land by visiting the city's architectural standouts, then walking the regular streets in between them.

I always bring home the local specialty, pickled; dish towels, because they fold easily; and local shelter magazines.

If I never return to the RyanAir terminal at London-Stansted it'll be too soon because budget airlines are not worth the hassle when British Airways is nearby.

I travel for the design hunting. (And the bragging rights.)
