Discover Louisiana's Rum Renaissance: A Tour of Louisiana Spirits Distillery

Louisiana is in the midst of a craft spirits renaissance, with breweries and distilleries emerging statewide, crafting high-quality products often featuring local ingredients.
Abundant sugarcane makes Louisiana a natural leader in rum production—one of the most versatile and enjoyable spirits.

During a recent visit to Lacassine, I discovered how Louisiana Spirits Distillery embodies the state's rum heritage. As a history enthusiast and farm-to-table advocate, the tour—from sugarcane fields to bottle—proved an unforgettable experience.
The journey begins in the gift shop, stocked with Louisiana specialties like Bayou Rum merchandise, souvenirs, and books. The tour kicks off with a video on Louisiana's rum history, highlighting how sugarcane farmers pioneered the industry.

Next, witness Bayou Rum's production in copper pot stills using unrefined local cane sugar and molasses. The highlight: a tasting of Bayou Satsuma Rum, Bayou Silver Rum, and Bayou Spiced Rum. Each offers distinct flavors perfect for cocktails, with expert serving suggestions from our guide.
This air-conditioned tour is an ideal summer activity and a must for Lake Charles visitors.
