Bayou Rum Unveils Historic Café du Bayou: A Charming Coffee Spot Steeped in Louisiana Heritage
One of Southwest Louisiana's premier tourist destinations has enhanced its appeal with a delightful new addition. Louisiana Spirits Distillery in Lacassine, Louisiana—home to the renowned Bayou Rum brand and just a short drive from Lake Charles—has opened Café du Bayou. This inviting coffee shop occupies a rustic, renovated farmhouse on the distillery property, recognized as the oldest home in the Lacassine/Iowa area, built in 1903 by Indiana rice farmer Cyrus Schrock as part of the Jabez Bunting Watkins land promotion.

“We acquired the farmhouse to preserve local history and repurpose it thoughtfully,” explains Adam Carter, Visitor Center Manager at Louisiana Spirits. “Vintage photos of the original family and the house through the decades adorn the café walls.”
The distillery transformed the historic structure into a cozy coffee haven for locals and visitors to unwind and connect. With no nearby coffee shops, it fills a welcome gap. Retaining much of its original charm, the café showcases the home's timeless beauty while delivering an exceptional experience. “It overlooks our serene pond from a spacious wraparound porch—perfect for sipping coffee amid scenic views and watching our ducks,” adds Carter.

Café du Bayou serves a diverse array of coffee beverages—espresso, cappuccino, lattes, and more—crafted with Louisiana's favorite Community Coffee. Pair your drink with fresh pastries or signature Bayou Rum cake by acclaimed Chef John Folse. Sandwiches are planned for the menu soon.

Louisiana Spirits Distillery, producer of Bayou Rum, earned the title of Louisiana's #1 Attraction from the Louisiana Travel Promotion Association in 2017. Since opening in 2013, it has become the nation's largest privately owned rum distillery, amassing countless awards. Bayou Rum products are distributed across the U.S., the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia. Enjoy complimentary tours, tastings, and a vibrant gift shop.
