Josh Guillory: The Master Craftsman Forging Lake Charles' Iconic Ironwork Legacy
Though you might not know local iron artist Josh Guillory by name, his exquisite craftsmanship graces Lake Charles. In 2008, the City of Lake Charles commissioned him to forge the distinctive lampposts, custom lighting, and intricate ironwork along the Lakefront Promenade. This prominent project showcases just a fraction of the ornate creations produced by Guillory and his team of seven skilled staff.

Guillory crafts virtually any custom iron piece clients envision, with a specialty in elaborate driveway gates and staircase railings. A welder since age 16, he started in oil refineries before discovering his true passion for ornamental ironwork after building his home in 2002. Largely self-taught through books and online resources, he has honed his expertise over the past two decades.
Guillory cherishes his craft, viewing it as a divine calling. As a child fascinated by arts and crafts, he explains, "Combining that creativity with a mechanical mindset led me to my ideal niche: blacksmithing, design, and a touch of engineering."

Beyond the Lakefront Promenade, Guillory's work adorns the Ryan Street Streetscape, local homes and businesses, and destinations nationwide. Notably, he designed and fabricated the entry gate at St. Joseph's Plantation near Gramercy, Louisiana—the filming site for the Oscar-winning film 12 Years a Slave. Authentically replicating 1850s blacksmith techniques with anvil, forge, and rivets, the gate appears period-original.

Guillory's accolades include membership in the National Ornamental and Miscellaneous Metals Association (NOMMA), where he earned four awards between 2009-2011 (two golds, one silver, one bronze), plus the prestigious Ernest Wiemann Top Job Award in 2012.
Next time you stroll Lake Charles' Lakefront Promenade, admire the masterful ironwork and the extraordinary talent of Josh Guillory.
